Hermitage of San Benigno and Caro of Malcesine

A route of 14 kilometers, quite challenging with some amazing parts in the woods and some panoramic views over the flanks of Monte Baldo. The return is a flat cycle path along the beach.
The hermitage, first home of the hermits Benigno and Caro, between eight and ninth century, is on Monte Baldo at about 800 meters above sea level.

Enter the southern Panoramica road and after the first bend take the uphill road to the right indicating CAI 659. Take the first uphill on your right to the beginning of the path. Ahead of you there is a trail in the woods of about two kilometers which can be done in an hour. At the crossroads, continue uphill to the left for an hour, turn right when the trail flattens and continue on some ups and downs in the woods until you reach the hermitage of San Benigno and Caro.

Here starts the downhill to Cassone. This part is very steep and mostly on muletrack; it loses about 800 meters of height in just three kilometers. Once in Cassone, cross the Gardesana road to go back to Malcesine walking on a flat cycle path and promenade close to the beach.

At the end of the promenade go straight to the harbour of Malcesine, take Via Parrocchia on the right, then climb the stairs of Via Pisort to reach the starting point of the route.
